Why can't I select the volume mode or sound mode on my tcl roku tv? ?

I've heard TCL isn't the best brand and I've heard a lot of people online say do not buy that brand and they also say things like I would never buy that brand here's the 10 brands I would only recommend and TCL is not one of them. ButI have a broken boxandI have volume mode andsound mode that my mom's TV hassince recent update to her TVbutshecan't access them. one of them is grayed out meaning no options and the other one isn't but you still can't select it. 

I apologize my phone is not catching my text well. I have a Roku box &my mom has the Roku TV. I expected we'd have similar features or same features but my Roku box seems to be better than her TV and I expected the TV to be better given that I have to add things to make it smart TV whereas hers is already that way. she just had update and has volume &sound mode when she didn't before. Both are not selectable and idk why. Why have it but can't select it? Any idea how to make it work?

I told my mom what it can do if it's workable and she said how do you make it do that? I said well I select star button and choose to level the volume so I can hear the TV better fit because the sound is so loud you can't hear the voices talking for. She said I hate that can you fix it on mine? I said  urs doesn't work even tho the options r there. She's like hm that's odd. Does anybody know y the latest update to the TV has those features but can't use them?
