Does my drive belt look dry and warned out?

My mechanic took this picture and indicated that I have to change my belt right away, however Im not great with cars but have been told the normal crap of mechanics ripping you off by an oil change, tire rotation, etc. Someone who knows cars enough let me hear your take on this. Car only has 75k miles by the way.

    Belts are supposed to be dry, they are not lubricated like chains. Hard to tell if there is deterioration. It doesn’t look like a cam belt, but it probably runs the alternator and water pump, power steering etc so is still important. 75k miles is getting to the point where it needs changing anyway. It’s not a massive job, so why risk it?

    Looks fine to me, I purchased a 2002 car 3 years ago and like every car i Buy second hand i Fitted 5 new tyres and Purchased a New serpentine belt will change it when old Belt looks like it needs changing

    Coming here to call us mechanics a bunch of crooks will not help your cause.BTW it's often the customer who is doing the cheating.

    The cracks show up on the inside of the belt. Your picture does not show enough detail. Some serpentine belts can be changed in 10 minutes, others can't. 75,000 miles on a newer car is not enough, but if the car is old (10 years or so) it may need to be changed because it has dried out and that affects it as much or more than mileage.

    It is NOT a timing belt and no real damage can occur if it breaks as some jabroney said, as long as you don't keep driving it till it overheats.

    I changed the belt in my car at 115,000 miles only because I was also replacing a leaking water pump. My belt didn't show  wear and felt compliant enough to continue to hold up. The part cost me $45 and would have only taken me 10 minutes to change anyway. Your belt does not look bad- the mechanic is gas lighting you. He want's you to buy marked up parts and $100 labor.

    Doesn't look bad from the pic. Caution on the side of safety. 75k is the safe time to change it as it is more likely worn. Todays engines can be internally damaged if driven, at all, after breakage. It is universally recommended to replace @ 90-100k. If you have any ratchets (my vehicle requires 3/4) find a utube video for your vehicle.

    If the belt is tight you should not need other parts such as tensioner. Change shouldn't take a mechanic more than 1/2 and that's stretching it. See if he will change a belt that you provide to save inflated cost of parts.

    it looks ok , why change it , its not the harmonic balancer belt , there under a cover on the motor , the belt you are going goes to your water pump ..

    I don't see any belt cracks or wear. Screw it. Look at the bright side...if you had been at Tires Plus they'd be trying to upsell you struts! What I would recommend is having the ATF drained and filled every 60,000 miles.

    It would be best to examine the whole of the inside of the belt rather than just a few inches of the outside.  Certainly it was good of him to take the picture, but he should point out exactly where the problem is.
