How much does a full paint job cost?

Looking for a full paint job to bring a car to like new condition. Maybe some light bodywork to smooth out any imperfections. I want a couple layers of clear to make it durable. It would be a BMW OEM color. It's for a mid sized coupe.

Minimum of $4,000.  Add $500 for each extra clear coat.

We would need a SPECIFIC model AND the area to give a decent estimate.

    Prices vary WIDELY.

Probably check with Maaco. They would have to see it.

As soon as you say "bodywork" that ENDS THE QUESTION.  Shops HAVE TO SEE IT.   Then again you can put it on with a roller and brush and if you are "Lucky" and pick the right kind of day (cool) the roller stipple will have time to flow out.=ing spray paint jobs.  You just got to be good.

The secret behind the clear is that it hides a bad color coat.  If it is splotchy (flat-not shiny beside shiny beside areas where the paint was so thick it ran down in sags  and runs (meaning the paint was put on unevenly there are thin spots and ultra thick spots on the same surface.

. I know because I sprayed vehicles up to commercial size trucks with JUST THE COLOR COAT.  It dried to the final sheen. My jobs had no runs or misses.

. Clear coating it is just hiding the thin spots and the thick spots under another coat.

You will have to contact some paint shops and get quotes - ask for some references too.

They will inspect the vehicle, determine how much 'light bodywork' is necessary, and give you some options based on how many coats of paint (including any kind of features like metal flake, etc.) and clear you want.

Make sure to get more than one quote - and if possible, try to get a look at some work they've done so you'll know how skilled they are.

The cost depends on how good you want it to be and how much body work needs doing, plus whether you want the door jambs and similar areas re-painted. You also need to mention where you are. The cost in Tijuana is a lot cheaper than in New York City, for example. You could easily spend a lot more than the car is worth for a good paint job. As for wanting "a couple layers" of clear, that just makes the finish too thick and prone to chipping, so you obviously know little to nothing about proper refinishing. Good luck with that. Go get quotes from at least half a dozen body shops in your area and do some research on their reputation.

From $300 to $20,000. You don't need more than one clear coat. You need a paint protector (Deep Gloss Paint sealant; Chemical Guys JetSeal Anti-Corrosion Sealant and Paint Protectant; or similar). Just ask the body shop.

Go to 5 different body shops and you'll likely get 5 different quotes.

Ask some friends and family for recommendations and/or look for online reviews of local shops to see which companies/locations are recommended.  I suggest visiting at least 3 shops for quotes to get an idea of how much it would cost for your vehicle.
