English houses or German houses which are more beautiful?

I have not been to Germany for about 40 years, but when I was there, the German government paid people to make their houses defensible, i.e., thick walls so that the building could be used like a little fort in battle.  Not a bad idea, but, it affects how they look.  Compared that to the thatched houses of southwest England, which are cute beyond belief.  Or, Tudor style houses.  Modern places in both countries aren't all that much different, but for older styles, I would give a slight nod to England.  This is only my opinion though; others may think otherwise, and that is just fine.

If you mean current houses, then for the most part they look very similar. If you are asking about the English Country House as opposed to an Ansitz, I find the Country House to be more pleasing as a rule. However if you are asking about midcentury middle class houses as a rule the German houses have more style than their English counterparts.
