What did the mechanic mean by this?

Recently had the car in for a new coil. The car had been running roughly and the mechanic said there was some little ball down in the engine past which i guess gas squirted. He said he cleaned it up to make the gas pass more smoothly through as well.

I have not been back, but do you have any idea what he was talking about?

Update:

To answer an Anonymous's question, it's a 2005 Altima and i doubt it has a carburertor

Everyone: yeah, i probably got taken. I was very unhappy with the service advisor, too, but i didn't want to complain because she seemed like a single mother. Thank goodness i have started going to a real mechanic since.

Certain old carburetors had check balls in the float chamber to prevent the chamber running dry during hard cornering and fuel would slosh to one side and the float would drop and close fuel flow. Fuel injectors in modern cars do not have this. He did something, but not what he told you.

    A little ball???

    Hmmm.

Which year/brand/model car do you have?

    It sounds like some gibberish.

Does your car have a carburetor?

Talk of an insane person.  Are you sure his other job is not "manager of the ball pit" at Mickey's?  You either listen better or you are going to pay for it.

No I don't. Sounds like you let a lube boy mess with your motor!

That sounds like the 'overcharge the fool' valve. In other words, an honest mechanic wouldn't be LOOKING at what you say he claimed to fix on a vehicle that was in for replacing ignition coils. They would also actually NAME the part instead of given that description.
