If you currently have a valid insurance policy for another car, you should be automatically covered for a day or two. If you currently have no insurance, you need to arrange coverage before you drive the vehicle.

Call your agent right away. Why do you need to wait? It only takes five minutes to add a vehicle to your policy. Some companies let you do it online.

    Instantly. No "grace period"

On my last, I hadda get comp. at same time I applied for financing. No one will finance a vehicle, that is, using the Vehicle As collateral, with out it. (An unsecured bank loan on the money, yes. Still legally need financial responsibility to drive on public streets)

And Yes, Ros, the US Has severe penalties for being caught driving with out F. Responsibility, in most states. Get a Clue..

ZERO DUMBASS, UNLESS YOU OWN ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT IS ALREADY INSURED. OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO GET IT INSURED BEFORE YOU CAN LEGALLY DRIVE IT ON A PUBLIC ROADWAY. .

Zero days, zero seconds. Actually as soon as the car is yours even when parked on a public road, even if you haven’t driven it yet.

You could lose your car ( it will impounded ) before you get 50 yards. Sometimes dealers will give you free 7 days insurance so you can drive away as soon as you’ve signed up for their rip off finance, but that won’t be the case for a private seller.

as soon as possible , accidents can happen even when you drive the car home after you pick it up .. you did check that the vehicle is registered and not written off , before you bought it and theres no loan owing  on the car  i hope .

You're supposed to contact your insurance agent and give them the VIN to get binding car insurance over the phone before driving the vehicle home.

You need insurance on day 1 of you owning the car.

Do you have car insurance for another car. The dealer usually calls your insurance company and send the information about the car you just bought so that coverage can begin right away.

If you don’t have insurance, the dealership should get you temporary insurance. The dealership will usually take about a week to get it ready for you so this is the time to buy insurance.

You need insurance before you leave the lot.  No driving on the public road without insurance.
