Are OEM parts the same as what comes on your car originally?
I got tired of using aftermarket front end parts that only last a year.
New cars go many years before they need a sway bar bushing (for example) so I decided to start using OEM parts even though they're more expensive, because my time is also expensive.
But a friend told me that OEM replacement parts are not the exact same parts that come on your car. So they will surely last longer than aftermarket cheapies, but probably won't last as long as the parts that came on the car from the factory.
Is this true or BS?

parts are made by the same company that made the parts the car was built with. They should also meet the original specs, although quality non-OEM parts also meet the same specs.

Maybe you don't understand what OEM means, because your question goes in circles.
OEM parts ARE what your car is made with. Original Equipment Manufacturer uses them (the factory).
You get OEM replacement parts from the dealership.
A box that says "OEM" that is made in China, that you buy at the corner auto parts store is NOT an OEM part, unless you are driving a Chinese car. In this case, the statement is FALSE and should by LAW, not be allowed to be printed on the box or package.

Yes OEM parts are what came with your car.
Aftermarket parts can be made to the same standard, or a higher or lower standard.
Price is probably the best guide. Something 30% if the price , is likely to be substandard.
An aftermarket part close to the OEM price , is likely to be if a higher standard.
With particular regard to bushings, OEM ones are often rubber and perish after about 10 years. Aftermarket ones are normally polyurethane and last forever.

They are one and the same part. That is why OEM parts are more expensive.

Of course they are not the same(otherwise they would be on the car) They are extras. You can buy good AFTERMARKET PARTS and CHEAP AFTERMARKET PARTS(that are made in the U.S.) You get to learn who are the junk makers...and stop buying their parts. I have got parts made from "outer Mongolia hinterlands" and they were BETTER THAN OEM parts. Depends on what it does. Some parts are not important in function.
