Let's see. If P=(32X-12) feet and a square has for equal sides, each side (S) is one fourth of P, or S=P/4=(32X-12)/4 feet, or S=8X-3 feet.

If that's the full perimeter, then 1/4 of that will be the length of one side. Take that expression and divide it by 4.

    (32x - 12) / 4

    You can distribute the division:

    (32x / 4) - (12/4)

    = 8x - 3

P.S. As a double-check, you can multiply that expression by 4 to verify you get back to the expression for the perimeter:

    4(8x - 3)

    = 32x - 12

    Answer:

    C. 8x - 3
