DogWith Vertigo?
Hey All! So my dog 12 this year, Chihuahua was diagnosed with vertigo last Friday.
Here is a little time line:
Friday to Monday: His eyes were darting and he would barley drink water - no food.
Tuesday to Friday: He started to eat tiny amounts that he could like off our finger and would drink out of a syringe.
Now Today: He has an upset stomach and doesn't want to eat again.
The whole time he has had a major head tilt and will only lay on left side. Is able to somewhat push himself, but back end won't do anything.
Have you guys had this happen? I wonder if he will be okay or if he won't recover. Every where I read says 3-7 days they should be much better, but he is barley any better.
Advice?

What you are describing best matches "vestibular syndrome" (aka vestibular disease) and is seen most often in elderly dogs.
https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/neurological/... is a loss of balance or dizziness, it is a SYMPTOM, not a diagnosis. While you can wait on whether the vestibular issue subsides, most veterinary sites strongly URGE you to see your vet. (And none of us are vets) and it can also be something ELSE, as others have speculated. I do not like the fact your elderly dog has refused food & even now is eating & drinking very little. THAT does not normally happen, but is understandable as nausea (due to the vertigo) may be likely. This refusal of most of food & water, may lead to a very weakened dog or one that become dehydrated. My dog who had vestibular syndrome very badly - was quickly and humanely treated by my vet and got over it quickly, almost as soon as she left the office.https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/neurological/...

Vertigo is a syndrome in the elderly dog, which can be very frightening to the owners. The dog is suddenly afflicted with a balance problem, usually staggering, but occasionally unable to stand, and more rarely actually rolling over and over.

vertigo makes u dizzy. Did the dog get any medication? If not it may take a while for the dog to get better. IF no improvement after a week go back to dr

I don't see where in the timeline that your veterinarian examined and diagnosed the problem. Does your dog have a raging ear infection? Did he have a stroke? Does he have a neurological disorder that needs steroids? Is it hydrocephalus, aka water on the brain?
We can give you a better answer if we know what is wrong with the dog.

Your vet is the one to ask about this

It's barely, not barley. You make the same mistake every time you ask this. The person who KNOWS the answer is your Veterinarian. But I'll guess. No, I've never experienced your Chihuahua having vertigo last Friday. Call the Vet and ask him/her.
