Car Problem?

My car battery was dead. I bought a brand new battery, put it in the car and now it’s making a rapid clicking noise. The car lights up everything works but when  I tried to start the car it almost starts then it dies. What could be wrong?

Update:

When I take the red battery cable off  the clicking noise stops.

Update 2:

The year is a 2010 Chevy Impala LT. I’m going to try to make sure it’s connect good. The red battery clamp is hard to put on all the way because of a square bolt I can’t take off. You think if the red bolt is all the way down it could start the engine? All the lights work. Note: even if I slam the door or hood the rapid clicking noise continues.

It sounds like you have no idea how to diagnose problems, and you dont have a multimeter or voltmeter either. Get a multimeter and check if the battery voltage is over 12.5 volts. If the voltage is below 12.2 volts then the battery might not be charged enough to start the car. Check the connections to make sure they are clean and free of corrosion, and then if it still wont start you might have a starter issue. Starters are usually easy to replace.

The battery is either not charged enough or you've got bad cable connections. Take the cable clamps of and scrap them on the inside contact areas to make them shiny. The ground wire needs to be inspected for corrosion and the bolt that grounds it to the transmission/engine also needs to be removed and the area scraped clean.

Year make and model.  Do NOT remove the battery cables on modern cars if you do not want to FRY the ECU.  Post a video on what the car is doing.  Try to replace the battery terminals and clean the starter contacts.  Clean the battery ground connection to the body and to the engine.  Good luck.
