Can plantains be eaten raw? ?

I have always heard that you don't want to eat them all because they are very fibrous and kind of not the same as eating a regular banana the texture is kind of gross the flavor is kind of gross but in all my high school cooking teacher said you don't want to do that you would probably learn quickly never to do it again if you try and we all took a little piece and said that's nasty you weren't kidding . But last year I had this plantain and it kind of got sorta yellow but it wasn't all the way yellow and I liked it raw as I was picking the pieces to make chips and I thought I wonder if this candy edible raw you just probably don't want to eat much of it because it's very fibrous from what I've heard but I've always wondered can you? So is anybody know? If I didn't feel like cooking a Plaintain and I just wanted to eat pieces of it and then save the rest how would I go about that because I hate regular bananas in that they are too sweet but I like that a Plaintain is not as sweet even when it turns yellow so I can handle it. so if this is not okay I feel it because I don't want to hurt myself or get sick but that's why I'm asking because the Internet really doesn't tell you a whole lot yes or no on it

Update:

To the person who said they're like potatoes in that they're not edible at all when raw, I personally like raw potatoes. my mom says the reason why is because my grandpa was always like that it'sin my genes or whatever. but with a potato you can only have maybe one slice or two because you don't want to end up in the bathroom . Plus healthier cooked. They have alkaloids not safe if too much of that is injested so it's best cooked.

Raw plantains have a very unpleasant woody flavor (think chewing on a popsicle stick). I've had them prepared as chips and they are not too bad. However, I've also had them deep-fried where the have more of a mush and hint of banana flavor. There may be other uses and ways to prepare them, but I guarantee none of them are raw. It won't kill you to eat it raw, but your taste buds, and possibly your stomach will hate you for it.

Generally, it is cooked and then we can eat it.

You can but they don't taste as good and are hard to digest.

Plantains belong to the same family of plants as bananas - Musaceae, but they are not bananas.

You can eat them raw in that it would not kill you, but they do not taste anything like bananas except when they turned black and even then only slightly similar to bananas. The common practice is to cook them. They can be cooked regardless of their color or stage of their  ripeness.

Raw plantains are something like raw potatoes. Not edible at all. I've never cooked them but it's really not hard at all. Toss some slices in a hot frypan, for instance.

Nope. They need to be cooked. They may look like bananas, but they are not.
