What kind of surname is Van (Asian)?

Not like Dutch Van.

I was reading about a teen who did a shooting at an arcade/amusement type park in Utah and his last name Van. Just wondering about its origin. Apparently it may be Vietnamese, but could be Cambodian or Chinese-Cambodin, Chinese-Malaysian or Singaporean or Japanese

In Asia the surname "Van" is only found in Vietnam, under the forms of "Vạn" (萬), "Văn" (文) and "Vân" (雲), the Vietnamese forms of the Chinese surnames "Wan", "Wen" and "Yún".

"Văn" (文) also a very common male middle name in Vietnam.
