    The telephone was first demonstrated at the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 in 

    Philadelphia, PA.

    The building where it was first demonstrated (Now called Memorial Hall) is still

    standing.

    Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray both submitted patent applications for telephones in 1876 (both were submitted on Valentine's Day).

    US.... year 1889...invented only for scientists (1876). 1st main public usage (1889) 200,000 phones.

    Alexander graham bell invented the telephone in 1876, he was scottish, and there were other people around the world trying to come up with a similar instrument too.
