Why take old clothes?  The maternity ward is perfectly safe.  I know a young woman how had a baby 9-months ago and had NOT problems at all.

I think your question maybe isn't clear to everyone?  Are you concerned that you will have to destroy the clothes you go to the hospital in?

You will likely give birth in a disposable hospital gown.  They will probably get you changed pretty quickly, so what clothes you wear doesn't much matter.

Yes, in theory you could catch COVID in the hospital, as you could in any other public place.  Hospitals actually know what they are doing when it comes to stopping the spread of diseases, so hospital transmission is relatively uncommon.  Spreading COVID by touch is also relatively rare.  The COVID virus can easily be destroyed by running the clothes through your washer and dryer.  The most important thing is to bring a good mask for the waiting room...the waiting room is probably the most dangerous part from a COVID perspective.

Most hospitals have separate wings or separate buildings for labor and delivery. I know a labor and delivery nurse- there have been a few women who were positive for COVID who came in to deliver, but they delivered in the emergency room, not in the maternity ward. You don't be exposed. Newborns don't need clothes- just a diaper, and depending on where you are, blankets to wrap them up in. I really don't understand what difference old clothes would make. COVID is not transmitted on surfaces or clothing.

Since you apparently have been in a coma for the past 10 months, let's do some basic covid education:

Most covid transmission occurs within the household - family members to family members and roommates to roommates.  The second greatest area for transmission is a work.

In the USA (not everywhere, like the UK still can't figure this out) hospitals figured how to to avoid transmission between employees and between employees to patients by May 1st.

Regardless how long covid lives on a surface in a lab - hours, days, weeks, even a month = you get covid from inanimate objects.

Covid is not transmitted at playgrounds.  In fact 95% of covid transmission occurs inside.  The itty bitty bit that does occur outside is from people who spend extended period of time today very close together.

But to answer your question:  hospitals are always a hotbed of germ passing.  The longer you stay the greater the chance of getting an infection at a hospital, but it's not going to be covid

It makes no difference if you take old or new clothes.

You should take baby clothes for the baby, like any other time of year. Preferably clean.

What difference would old clothes make?

If you have a question about your hospital stay you should ask your doctor or midwife.

Covid19 patients are not being treated anywhere near a maternity ward and the doctors, nurses and midwives taking care of you are not treating them too.

A newborn has immunity but you don't.
