Can 20% glycolic acid cause a burning sensation?
I hadn't used my glycolic acid for a couple of weeks due to a cold house(fixed now), and earlier I applied a small amount to my face to exfoliate some dead skin. The burning was horrible, it felt like my face was on fire. Is this normal for this to happen when acid pads are super cooled by sub freezing temperatures? Before, I just got a light tingle feeling, but now it's a fricking burning.
I vowed to never use those pads again after this experience, I don't want to go through that agaim.

I think it's insane to use chemical peels on your face. Factor in an allergic reaction and you could be scarred for life. If you feel the need to exfoliate, which I happen to think is unnecessary, use a preparation with ground up natural stuff like peach stones. At least you have control with that kind of material.
