Should I dye or cut my hair first?
So I am planning on getting my haircut and coloring it at home. But I can't decide which one I should do first. I'm not planning on using bleach, just dyeing my hair a darker brown color. I do have thick hair and it is the longest it has ever been before. I normally need 3 boxes of hair dye, so I might need 4 or 5 this time. I am planning on cutting my hair shoulder length.
Which do you suggest: dyeing first or cutting first?

If that's not an option — for example, if you already have a stylist and colorist you love, and they work out of different salons — always opt to get your hair cut first, then bleached, dyed, or highlighted (preferably, within a few days of each other). As Thompson says, “The cut's going to make the color.”

I would think dye then cut. If your hair gets damaged or if the ends split, you can trim them off. If you plan on having shoulder length hair you may even save money on the dye, instead of 4-5 you may only need 2-3 boxes.
With any hair dye, read and follow the instructions. Also do a strand test to see if you're going to like the results. With brown hair dye, they can often turn out darker then you want them to. Also if you've never used the dye you want to use before, also do an allergy test.

However you wanna do it if you wanna save some money on hair dye then it might be better to cut it first.

Most salons I've ever been to always diethen cut it but I don't actually have much of a problem with it cutting it then dying it oh, I guess it just depends on if you want to save money on hair dye
