Is paying for someone to promote youtube videos bad and illegitimate?

I just started making yt videos but wanted to promote one because I wanted the 'views'. I now have more than 8x as much views. I want to boost my watch time but would it help and could I get in trouble or be denied monetization if the views are from paid promotion? Need answers!

    If YouTube catches on that you are paying a 3rd party to improperly promote your channel you can get banned.  It just depends how good the 3rd party does it.
