Why are people with BPD capable of love but not those with NPD?

It has come to my understanding that both of these personality disorders develop in people due to child hood trauma and lack of receiving love & affection as a child by their parents etc but why are people with borderline capable of giving and receiving love while those with a narcissist personality  disorder are not? It is said that people with borderline also have narcissistic traits but if that’s true why are they so different compared to someone with narcissist personality disorder?

I am pretty sure narcissistic personality disorder doesn't exist and was just made up by the APA.  Also npd are more obsessed with being superior and themselves  than simply returning love/affection to someone else
