Are paid surveys a good idea?

I'm an elder teen looking to make a little extra money. Are those paid survey things a good idea...? and what is a safe one to do?

    LOOK THROUGH YOUR mail to find them...I have not seen them in years.

    They're a waste of time. You have hours of work to do and payout is minimal.  Most pay now in the form of a cheap giftcard rather than cash too.
