How do I get back my drive to rap/ do more than just be a 9-5 worker?

I’ve wanted to be a rapper ever since I can remember. I used to write a lot but now I struggle to even start a song. I feel I have a boring flow and that I dont have my own style like some of the greats do. Sometimes I feel that I’ve wasted my time dreaming of becoming a rapper because I don’t take it as serious or put in as much work as I should to become better. Are dreams worth chasing? I’m 27 by the way. Yes I work, lol. It’s just that I’ve always felt rap was my calling, i just question if it really is

A mentor once told me that unless my passion for something was as important to me as the air in my lungs - then it would be highly unlikely that the passion would be anything more than a mere dream.

Dreams without drive, dreams without a willingness to sacrifice will remain nothing more than dreams.  Nothing really wrong with that UNLESS at the back end of time you reflect and have regrets.

The true challenge is asking yourself:  "will I regret not doing whatever it takes to make this dream come true."    Spoiler alert:  VERY hard to figure out up front.

In your case I know only this for sure: the world is FULL of wanna be and failed rappers.  Very few make it big and become famous.   The question is - are you okay with fading away before you even really get started and becoming one of the many or are you going to make every effort to claw your way to the top?

Good luck:  only you can decide.

No one can tell you if your calling is a true one or not. Dreams do change over time, and perhaps you could have outgrown this one.  But if you still love rapping, don't give it up just yet. You could be depressed, as many of us are, because of the isolation imposed by the pandemic. Are you using electronic media to communicate with others? You could be rapping on zoom, for instance. Good wishes,
