Thinking of getting a 1998 toyota supra, are they reliable?

MILEAGE???  MY rule is, for USED CARS, GET it INSPECTED by the NAMED dealership, to spot any WEAK POINTS>>RUST anywhere>> have them change ALL the fluids even and ESPECIALLY< the BRAKE FLUID that turns into TOXIC  WASTE and LIQUID SANDPAPER.  NERALY all BRAKE issues as a car AGES are CAUSED by failing BRAKE FLUID! it is an ESTER compound that ATTRACTS moisture from the AIR and turns DARK BWRON when it is a DEAD FLUID! TRANS and STEERIN fluids ALSO have a WEAR POINT and a same for the COOLANTS! NEVER use PRESTONE or PEAK or VALVOLINE OIL.  I buy cars from the AUCTION and this is STANDARD PROCEDURE for ME!  I once got someone a SUPERB USED BMW station wagon that listed NEW for $65,000 + for only $2,500! The FINISH was FLAWLESS! It only needed BRAKE PADS and TIRES and like i mention above ALL the fluids changed! Then it will be good for ANOTHER 100,000 miles! The SUPRA is AWESOME and steers more or less NEUTRAL! A TURBO AUDI has DOUBLE CONTROL ARMS in front that GRIP like GLUE on ANY type of road in ANY type of WEATHER and is QUATTRO four wheel drive! the FORD MUSTANG also has this RACE type suspension the DOUBLE CONTROL ARM they LEARNED from AUDI! If I would AFFORD a BRAND NEW RAV4 I would just LOVE IT! ESP the AWD one!  LOW cars MAY be harder to get not! AS I AGE I realize this VERY VERY WELL! IF your PARENTS will be getting IN and OUT, consider THEM as well!  I LOVED the TWIN TURBO AUDI ALLROAD! It has a BUTTON on the DASH that lifted the car by THREE inches for BAD weather and SNOW! QUATTRO< BOSE< TWIN TURBO< and LOTS of ROOM! INCREDIBLE paint jobs! STURDY STRONG metal not FLIMSY< PUSH button SUSPENSION! the BEST ABS on the PLANET! And NOW sold for $5k or LESS!  USED! You can get it FIXED up cheaply if there are ANY issues from BLAUPARTS and ROCK AUTO! A TOAL BLAST to drive! The ORIGINAL had a twin turbo 250HP 2.7 liter engine that is EASILY TWEAKED to 350 HP! with a CHIP and a few add-ons! These cars do NOT RUST as to HOW they are MADE! THESE are OLDER AUDI CARS! The NEWER ones are even MORE AWESOME! And at THAT TIME the only ADD-ON was a SOLAR PANEL ROOF! WOWEE! How HIGH tech is THAT ONE! SEATS made by ORTHOPEDIC SURGEONS you can drive CROSS COUNTRY and NOT even be WINDED! THE TURBO supra is ONLY a REAR drive and NOT that good in SNOW or BAD WEATHER< just OKAY! FI YOU DO GET IT AFTER a full inspection, get ALL the fluids CHANGED at ONCE at a TOYOTA DEALER SHIP !Use ONLY PENNZOIL ULTRA PLATINUM OIL to get a WARRANTY to 500,000  miles! CHANGE the DIFFERENTIAL dope! CHECK the BALL JOINTS and TIE ROD ENDS and the BUSHINGS! CHECK the UNIVERSAL JOINTS if it HAS them or the REAR independent suspension if NOT! >>I WODUL STILL get a good used BENZ SUPERCHARGED CONVERTIBLE on line for UNDER $8K from CARS.COM! They are MUCH more STURDY and even MORE fun to drive! OR a TURBO AUDI convertible! They are SUPER instead of SUPRA! LOL! The SUPRA is GREAT and uses IDEAS from BMW! The ENGINES are STRAIGHT SIX  and that is SUPERB! I love them BETTER than ANY V6 engine. I have worked on NON turbo TOYOTA ENGINES but I am SURE the POWERTRAINS are GREAT and will last a VERY LONG TIME! But the STRENGTH is JUST not there compared to offerings from EUROPE like a TURBO JAGUAR or TURBO AUDI! They feel TOO LIGHT and steer FUNNY compared to other ones! JUST MY perception! AT LEAST you are NOT looking at a GM car!!! CHECK OUT the USED BENZ supercharged ones ONLINE at CARGURUS and CARS. COM they a re MORE FUN really and STEER like a RACE CAR does. SAME YEAR up to 2002 ONLINE! You may want to THANK ME here! I take VISA and MASTER CHARGE! LOL!

They can be if the vehicle was properly cared for and maintained. These tend to be rock solid, reliable cars, but not it's 23 year old. Even the best examples will need something. Aging parts play a big role in what are car may need. Hoses, gaskets, belts, fluids...... Are things that will need to be replaced. If you're considering one, get it inspected buy a mechanic and get service records, if there are any. Good luck.

I daily a 91 3000GT twin turbo. No issues. Keep up with the maintenance, replace any worn parts.

They were when they were mad back in 1998. Who knows what the car has been through since then!

The car is over 20 yrs old.  Expect to do some repairs.  The car you are buying might not even run or start.

hows it been treated not if its had the guts thrashed out of it can you get something 10 years newer
