What are the gospel/jazz/blues elements in this song?

The song is Don't Smoke in Bed by Nina Simone which is an RNB song from the 1950's. What are the gospel/jazz/blues elements in this song? I don't know music very well but this was asked in my music class. Thank you. https://youtu.be/0jegpATcIxI

I’m not a music major, just a musician, so my answers probably won’t fit a textbook.

Jazz is heavy in syncopated rhythms, (or beats that don’t quite match up) and free form, improvised playing.  If you listen to the piano in the song, the chords are mostly used as responses to the vocals and “guideposts” through the song.  There isn’t a steady beat with a melody you can easily follow along with, right? So that’s how syncopated music and improv works. That’s jazz.

Blues is another thing.  That’s a “feel and soul” thing.  I suppose the lyrics (words of the song) are sad and emotional, which fits blues music.  Blues music also uses some different musical notes and chords from other types of music, but I can’t name them without seeing the sheet music to this song.  Those blues notes are probably in there.  But if you aren’t a musician, you couldn’t pick that stuff out anyways.

Gospel I didn’t get from that song at all.  That doesn’t mean it’s not an influence, just that I didn’t notice it personally.
