Why do Japanese movies and other Asian region movies look so good?

I have got into watching more foreign films than American a lot lately and reason being is because they seem to take it more seriously but yet, with ease and not too stressed with "scare tactics." 

They tend to not try and over do it like American movies. Their scares come from the most small and easiest things. Take the film #Alive, Train to Busan or even Cold Fish. All of these are the basic kind of movies that most have seen but yet, they add in different little twists and turns that people have not thought of just yet. They seem to do better than most when it comes to this. 

Their thought process is simple, fun, logical and semi serious. 

I just LOVE their movies.
