    Yes, I bought a new 323 in '91, 125 K on it. no problems.

Now have a '15 M3, got used, price was a bit les than other comparable Japanese makes. . No problems.

I believe Mazda, Mits, Isuzu are just as "good" as the big Japanese 4, just a bit cheaper because they  dont advertise as much

New, yes. Used, it depends on how they have been treated, just like any other used car.

For what it is worth my Mazda is 20 plus years old. No rust, original engine, transmission and still looks good. It also still gets over thirty miles per gallon and uses less then 1 quart of oil between 3000 mile oil changes (it is still above the add mark on the dipstick). The radiator needed replaced.

So I have to say they are great cars. Just avoid "R" models as in RX-8! The rotary engines take a driver who follows directions. Which it seems 90% plus of Americans can't.

That said- a Subaru is a great car too.

Overall yes, though they do have their weaknesses like rust proofing and certain suspension parts.

I got one of my kids a used 2010 Mazda 3.  In a period of 2 years, it had 3 major systems problems.  I got my other kid a 2010 Mazda 6, and it had electronic gremlins for the 4 years he had it.  The kid that had the Mazda 3 traded it in on a brand new Scion iA, which is basically a Mazda 2 sedan.  He just paid it off, and other than a rear brake job, it's been completely reliable, gets great milage, and is fun to drive.

Per Consumer Reports, they are good cars, but my personal experience hasn't been great.  I think we were just unlucky with the 3 and the 6.
