What would you do to help beggars?
In the city where I live, at least two people died on the street due to the cold temperatures of this winter.
I am aware that many of these people likely suffer from mental conditions and addictions.
In some cases, they might have chosen to live in these conditions, because they don't want to integrate into society.
My questions are: do you think these people can be helped? Are they employable? Should they be given shelter and food?

I've worked with that community and it is really complex. Some are chronically homeless and profoundly mentally ill. The state saves money by emancipating them so there is no reliable way to compel them to come in from the cold or to participate in a habilitation/rehabilitation program. Others have been victimized or are victims of circumstances outside of their control and there is not much available to offer them in terms of a road back to a safe and stable life. Programs for those people are often thought of as expensive endeavors with a limited success rate. Many communities just don't want to shell out that much money without a good chance of success.
Making things worse, the number of homeless people is increasingly dramatically. When we reach the point where there are many families who are homeless for 2 generations or more, the effort and expense of repairing our society may exceed our resources.
It doesn't have to be that way. Some communities have found ways to address the problem. But certain groups get infuriated at the mention of it and scream about socialism and bleeding heart do-gooders.
Some communities are selfish and do nothing or just the minimum. Others try to fix the problem and fail. But some make the effort and succeed, if we take those successes and apply their methods on a larger scale we can accomplish much. It's up to us.

Absolutely nothing.

There are places here in my hometown which helps the homeless. The Bible assures us, however, that soon, under the rule of God’s Kingdom, all obedient people will enjoy perfect living conditions.
