who pays for work mandated covid test?
im from california. i work in a nursing home that is requiring us to test 2 times a week for covid and we employees are using our own individual insurance to take these tests unless we dont have health insurance i assume its paid by government/taxes. we were told to use our own insurance and if they find out we have insurance and testing without it they will make us pay. i find it kind of weird the employer is making us use our own insurance, i keep getting explanation of benefits and this testing is expensive. So far my share has been 0$. i dont have to pay anything supposably
also each test is costing up to 300$/400$or more, which my insuramce seems to be covering. damn thats expensive

It is not weird at all. The service is for you, so your insurance should be billed. If your employer provides insurance for the employees, then there's no excuse for not having it and you would probably be expected to pay out of your own pocket.

As of January 2, 2020, everyone in the state of California is required to have health insurance or face a penalty.
The State of California requires that insurance companies cover the cost of covid testing for:
- anyone who is symptomatic
- anyone who is an essential worker
- anyone who is exposed to covid (close contact)
Where are you going to get your testing? Most testing is $150.
