Why does HR need documentation of O.T., when they’re only paying me for my standard hours?

Due to COVID, I’m working four days instead of five, but am still getting paid for five days.  Therefore, if I do any overtime, it’s deducted from my paid day off.

So, what’s the pony of HR wanting to know why I stayed late?

Update:

What’s the POINT? (Typo, autocorrect)

    Multiple reasons.

For example, worker's comp premiums are calculated on the number of hours you work, not the number of hours you were paid for.    Even if they're paying you for 40 hours, they're only paying worker's comp premium on 32 if you work 32.   All hours you actually work must be reported to the state.   This is a different number than the number you are paid for.   If you work 35 instead of 32, they've committed insurance fraud if they do not report all 35 hours.
