Is adoption as hard as they say it is?

So my wife and I can’t have children naturally, so we’ve been doing some research on adoption. But it looks like it costs tens of thousands of dollars and wait lists are very long, and adoption agencies are known to be corrupt and shady these days. I understand fostering children is an option, but it seems like the goal of that is to reunite foster kids with their biological family which means we’d lose the child. We want to be permanent parents not temporary ones. We really really want to adopt but research has shown us it’s almost impossible. Is this true?

Everything you say is true. Yet, there are tens of thousands of kids adopted in the US every year. If you try to adopt, there's a risk you'll end up disappointed. But you should ask yourself: is it better to take the risk and try to adopt anyway, or is it better to avoid the risk and accept that you'll probably always be childless? There's no right or wrong answer. There's only the answer you decide is best for you.

(Side note: If you want to adopt from foster care, you can specify that you're only interested in kids whose parents have already lost their rights, leaving the kids free for immediate adoption.)

Adoption from foster care is free.

You can specify you only want to be matched with a child or a sibling group who are legally free for adoption.

Friends of ours adopted a sibling group of three, then a few years later, adopted those children's two younger siblings.

They don't allow trolls to adopt anything, much less a human baby, "ollie/paul" so you aren't going to need to worry.
