Should illiterate people be allowed to vote?

Should they need to possess a basic understanding of what the platform they are voting for actually stands for? Everyone here seems to agree you can’t trust what politicians say, right?

    A literacy test would mean less potential voters among Republicans / Conservatives ..

    It doesn't require the ability to read to be able to understand what you're voting for. And, you shouldn't be prohibited from voting because you can't read. For many reasons. Not the least of which is that it affects poor and minorities more that may not have been able to afford an education. .
