Is it still a terrible time?

Suffering comes from several places, a large portion from God judging our wrong. Even if a portion of people do no wrong Psalms and elsewhere describe God wrought happenings to the wicked. Then there are Truths concerning life/existence in general such as all is vanity & all things being wearisome.

Blessedly for me God has provided a portion of happiness for me in a woeful life. He who is of a merry heart has a continual feast. 

That is the actual plan of governments and religions. We could live in a paradise but we are now in a slave and murderous world...the hell, the Bible is talking about. 

Yes, but it has been for thousands of years.

I’m sad every day I’m sad me Sad every day! Sad is me, my brothers I’m sad my brothers 

I don't think "everyone" is miserable and suffering, but undoubtedly someone somewhere is.
