How was there a home video in the 1950s?

If they were copies of popular movies, where did the consumer go to buy these movies? The cinematheque? The projectionist's office? The film projection manufacturing office? Did they order it by phone?

    Home movies in the 50's were taken with Super 8 projectors . My dad used to take them of us kids and drag baby videos out on holidays to embarrass us.They were not commercial films.

    There wasn't any home video in the 1950's, at least there wasn't anything your average consumer could get like today.  If you missed the movie in the cinema, you could wait until it was shown on TV.

    In 1951 video tape recorders came out which people used to make the home videos
