Why do some people believe FREE = FREEDOM?
All the people who vote for the candidate who offers FREE STUFF.
No such thing as FREE.
SOMEONE has to pay so that someone else DOESN'T.
"Free", in this case is a noun as in free stuff, as anyone who knows how to read for meaning and knows to use context clues, can figure out. It is obvious that I am not using it in the verb form as in to free an animal caught in a trap. It is filed under politics and gov for a reason.
The meaning is that some people think if they are given things, without having to earn them, that they are experiencing freedom, when in fact, they are now obligated to the giver. The more people get from the gov the more power the gov has over them, thus the less freedom people have. Freedom isn't free.

While your question requires context if you want a useful answer, Too many people don't understand what is required for freedom to work. It requires an informed informed, citizens who can be responsible for their own actions. Otherwise, they could lose their freedom.

Why do you think free (adverb) and the concept of freedom have anything to do with each other? They don't. Just because other definitions of free (adjective and verb) do doesn't mean they all do.
"SOMEONE has to pay so that someone else DOESN'T"
Oh, just like if you drive on non-toll roads in a state you don't live in THOSE residents are paying for YOUR FREE use of and contributed wear and tear on THEIR roads. You benefit from the taxes paid by other people just the same as anyone else. You are not a victim, snowflake.
