My question is down below?

I'm getting 2 holland lop rabbits and I've been advised to purchase a male and female but I have been told by my friend (who has also got 1 rabbit) that they start to mate before the vet can neuter/spay them. Is this true and how do I not get them to mate?

if the male and female advice was in terms of bonding, I wouldn't agree that that's necessary. I have had 6 rabbits 2 girls at one time 2 boys at another and one of each another time. the two girls got on the best , followed by the two boys, a mix of each got on okay but not as well.

if you want one of each could you separate them for a while, often this is best to get them used to the idea of each other before they're introduced anyway , at least until you  can get the boy spayed at 10 weeks (depending on its size and development)

anyways don't overthink it too much because sometimes the sex is wrong happened with mine twice

    Good luck

Vets generally prefer to wait until the rabbit is 6 months for a spay but it can be done as early as 4 but it is riskier on a younger rabbit. Neutering can be done at 8-12 weeks. Females cant breed until about 4 months so if you get him neutered on time you wont have to worry about babies. They will need to be kept separated for 4-6 weeks while they heal.

Another thing you need to consider is there is no guarantee they will always get along. As they get older they may start to fight. Neutering calms them down and makes them more likely to get along but there is still no guarantee. Do not get 2 rabbits unless you can keep them separate permanently in case they don't get along. If you want to ensure they will get along you need to get an already bonded adult pair.

You keep them totally separately in their own cage
