Does The Queen have the right to stop someone in the line of succession from naming their baby something considered inappropriate?
If the baby is born outside of the UK and Commonwealth, do the same rules apply?ย

I understand that just as she can veto the marriage of anyone in the top six slots in the line of succession (including herself), so too can she veto the names of babies born into those slots. This is why Wiliam, Henry, George, Charlotte, Louis and Beatrice have traditional royal names and the others don't.ย

I doubt she interferes with the name since she has has a great-granddaughter named Savannah.ย However some names like John or Richardย are not used for those who are in direct line of succession.ย

No. Princess Anne named her daughter Zara.ย

No. Considering it will never actually be anywhere near enough to inherit the throne it is not something she would need to worry about. I think I would have drawn the line at Savannah.

Why don't you ask what you really seem to need to know - will the Queen be able to step in should Sussex baby # 2, born in America,ย be given an 'inappropriate' name.ย ย ย
As I suspect this baby girl will 99.9% be given Diana as her first name, HM will presumably be spared any need to step in.ย ย After all she seemed to think Archie was OK!!!!

She's been said in the past to have nixed various names (supposedly she didn't like "Annabelle" when it was proposed for one of the York daughters), but since this sort of thing is generally claimed by the tabloids rather than reputable, reliable papers, you have to take it with several pounds of salt.
She certainly doesn't have the legal power to force someone not to use a given name, let's put it that way. Whether people in her family are just so anxious to please her that they'd agree not to use a name she didn't like is another issue.
However, she obviously didn't veto "Archie Harrison," and why anyone thinks she could prevent a child born in the US from bearing any name his parents chose is anyone's guess.ย Just how, precisely, do you think she could do that? She has no authority over what goes on US birth certificates.

It's a pity that she hasn't got the right to stop silly little trolls like you asking silly little questions.

The royals supposedly tell the Queen what the child's names will be, and of there is a problem with the name, the Queen makes suggestions to make changes. We don't know how factual this report is.
A royal is still a royal, wherever they are living, so if this is a "rule" it still applies.
