At the family's request!
My mother requested direct cremation. Said if people wanted to see her they should come see her while she was alive.

I think some people prefer it rather than having a full funeral. It costs a lot to be born and it costs a lot to die. Cremation costs less than burial. I think some people do it because they want things to be easier for their loved ones. But, they make you buy a casket regardless. I had a loved one ask to be cremated and the funeral home still makes you purchase a casket.
But, now days, I think many of us getting older have lost so many people in our lives, and we feel that there would be a small turnout at any kind of a service, so many forgo that expense.
And, for practical reasons, the body itself when it breaks down, is rotting flesh, fat, etc., and has to be dealt with. I used to be against cremation, personally, but then I thought, after we had experienced severe wild fires, and seeing news of people perishing, that if people die in fires and still go to Heaven and get a new, resurrected body, that cremation should not affect our "here after". So, I am coming around. both of my parents asked for cremation. I didn't want it, but they did and it is THEIR CHOICE. I am still thinking about it for me, but I don't really think it matters! We will receive a new, healthy, body!
