Why can't you use store credit to buy gift cards?
I returned something and received store credit for it. I tried to get a gift card with the store credit. The cashier said "Store Credit is not a legal tender for gift cards" I said it is my money and I can't get a gift card with MY MONEY. If I wanted a gift card I needed to give them more money to purchase it.

Because the rule of the gift card companies is "cash only" which is why I can't use my credit card to buy gift cards

A "Store Credit" is actually not your money. It is a specified amount you can spend on merchandise in their store.

That money was already spent by you. They want other people to buy stuff with new money.

The entire purpose of store credit is that you must spend it IN THE STORE on store merchandise.
Why would any sane business allow you to buy a gift card for another business?
