Horoscopes: Where should people interested in more serious astrology go?

If there is a local astrological association in your area ... attend meetings.

If you have an astrologer in your area who teaches astrology ... take classes.

Go to the American Federation of Astrologers and take online lessons .. or the Faculty of Astrological Studies in England .. or whatever the equivalent association in Australia is called.

Do an internet seach on "astrological organizations".

I recommend two books:

1)  "The Astrologer's Handbook" by Sakoian and Acker .. a paperback cheapest if bought used on amazon or an equivalent website.  The very basics ... used for decades by many astrology teachers.

2)  "Planets in Aspect" by Robert Pelletier.  More advanced and costs more, but a wealth of psychological information about how each particular "planetary aspect" inlluences our inner psychology.  And aspects are what we focus on when looking at a natal chart.

Finally, do up charts for everyone you know.  Internet sites do them up for free. I recommend alabe.com, but any will do.

Compare and contrast.  For instance, I got my first understanding of "Moon in Taurus" by comparing 5 people I knew who all had Moon in Taurus .. and comparing what various books said it would be like to what I actually SAW in them.  All they had in common was that Moon Sign, so that indicated how Moon in Taurus operated.

Over years, comparing and contrasting charts for people you KNOW helps you understand what the written reference materials are talking about. There is no quick learning in astrology.

When you get to the point where you think you are starting to be able to delineate a chart without running to the an astrological "cookbook", take one of the proctored exams that the American Federation of Astrologer offers ... that will give you a good idea of how well you have learned the theory and how to apply it to a natal chart.

But understand that all VALID astrology is based on the individual specific accurate birthdata for a person:

1) day, month, year of birth

2) hour, minute of birth (NOT rounded off to the hour/half-hour/quarter-hour)

3) place of birth (all sites that calculate natal charts will convert it into longitude and latitude for you).

Once you start to get a handle on it, consider buying "Solar Fire", "Sirius" or "Win*Star" software to install on your own computer.  Note that the app "WinStar" is NOT the "Win*Star" I am recommending.

Beginners with a developing interest but don't know how to develop it - try to find an astrology group near you or failing that, find one giving talks and such online.  Try to avoid You Tube unless you've been guided there by someone who knows something. There is some good stuff on You Tube, but there is an awful lot of garbage. 

There are dozens of decent beginners' books on Amazon, and at the AFA's (American Federation of Astrologers) website.  Try to avoid the esoteric stuff at least in the beginning. Debbie Kempton Smith's "Secrets From A Stargazer's Notebook" is good, but dated. 

Facebook has all sorts of astrology groups from Sun Signs to really advanced stuff.  Join, lurk and see if it fits. 

Lessons are good if you can find someone to teach you.  At the very beginning level you don't need a famous astrologer.  Adult schools sometimes offer beginning courses. 

Intermediate students: pick a area you enjoy and stick with that for a while to the exclusion of other things. 

Other folks like you are out there.  You're just going to have to search for them.  

Serious about astrology? How it can be treated seriously if you strive to live in an evidence based world? Those that promote astrology lack the natural curiosity that humans have to find out how things work. They are slaves to magic and superstition.

Edit: Who would do a study on nothing? Are any actual astrology research currently being conducted? Has there ever been? If so, where did the financing come from? How about results? Not on the web. When people invest time and money, having nothing to show is a waste. But if nobody did the work, no results can be expected. 

You want to "learn"? You’re going to spend money. The are many types of astrology and each say they have the truth. Though none can show it works and how it works.
