why are democrats against following the constitution as written as that is how its supposed to be followed and is not up for interpretation?

You forgot "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." 

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. That doesn't mean background checks or regulations. 

There's been 27 amendments to the constitution since it was first written. 

They don’t care about “interpreting” it, they want to rewrite it.
