Different virus protection software for different devices?
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't know the answer. I have 2 different PC's both wired internet in my house. Can I have different virus protection providers or do they both have to be the same provider with 1 covering 2 devices?

You can have different anti-virus programs on each of the PCs. An anti-virus program only known about the specific computer it is installed on. It does not know your other computer each exist. So it does not care what is running on the other computer. So yes, you can run different anti-virus programs on the computers.
If you are running Windows 10, it already has a build in anti-virus called Defenders. You actually do not need to install any other anti-virus programs on either computer. You can just let them use the one build into Windows 10.
