why do democrats want to discourage wealth AKA success?

wealth is not the same as success

You cannot become a billionnaire without screwing people over. You can only get there by overcharging customers, underpaying personnel, polluting the planet, dodging regulations, etc

They encourage it. 

To understand that wealth, in and of itself is sufficient reward for being wealthy and ideas of further rewarding wealth by shifting the tax burden onto the working class, is not a discouragement of wealth aka success. That a person with an annual income of $5M or more will be keeping only 65% of it rather than 75% of it isn't going to inspire any of those high income people to refuse that after taxes income. 

They don't. They WANT you to become wealthy and successful, so they can take that wealth away from you, and redistribute it among other people whom they think deserves it more than you do.

Envy, pure and simple.

The American Kennel Association is full of wealthy people.
