Is it destructive to like material things ?

There is nothing wrong with matierial things. It is good to desire beauty and creativity. These are Godly attributes. We must, however, place God first in our lives and eliminate pride. God becomes the foundation from which all other desires are placed in their proper order. It is not a matter of either/or, but rather we can share our desires and concerns with God.

An individual is materialistic, not because of how much he has, but because of putting a priority on material things. The apostle Paul stated: “Those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires, which plunge men into destruction and ruin. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains.” (1 Timothy 6:9, 10) It is the determination to be rich and the love of material things that cause problems.

Christians do well to examine their priorities and focus in life. Whether one has little or much in a material way, spiritually-minded people strive to follow Paul’s admonition to rest their hope “not on uncertain riches, but on God, who furnishes us all things richly for our enjoyment.”—1 Timothy 6:17-19.

It can be if you seek material and monetary wealth and possessions and put God in second place.

It can be. Anything a human can touch or use, will perish with the use of it, and is corruptible. But that doesn't mean material things are evil or anything like that.

Not really.  I’ve found that it’s perhaps destructive to one’s spiritual growth to put the wrong emphasis on such things, but God likes for us to enjoy them.
