Returned item - is this normal?

If I purchased an item online at a discount, returned it in store. But changed my mind and want the item back. The cashier charged me full price without the discount and gave me the same opened item back. Is this normal? If they’re going to charge full price shouldn’t they give a new box? Plus they kept the receipt of my original purchase.

If the discount was no longer valid, sure, totally normal.

You pay the purchase price on the day of your purchase.  This is not the least bit unusual.  The unusual part is ordering, returning, reordering.  The price has NOTHING to do with the packaging.  It is also not the least bit unusual to return your purchase price and keep the receipt.
