Why would yahoo executives purposely destroy an potential income asset like yahooanswers?

Instead of destroying a potential asset by shuttering yahooanswers, Yahoo could easily expand it to include paid-for answers, classes, links to businesses and online education. Why lose a great profit-center like yahooanswers? You already have the audience, unless their competition has suggested that they  close it.???
