Rolled my ankle and heard a loud pop, felt really nauseous afterwards. Should I go to the hospital?

I was in a hurry, so I stood up while my leg was asleep and ended up rolling my ankle really badly. There was a loud pop or crack when it happened, and it hurt immediately. Still does. It didn't immediately swell up or bruise, but I got super nauseous afterwards and thought I was going to be sick, and it took me a minute to feel like I could move from the spot on the ground, beyond just because of the pain because of how sick and dizzy I felt suddenly.

Should I go to the hospital? What should I do?

It's better to go and see the doctor and to find out what happened. Doctors will tell you what must be done to feel better.

If you can move it around in a circle it's not broken. Try that and see if it's broken. A bad sprain will make a popping sound too.

Source(s): I have broken my ankle. At ER the first thing they do is ask you if you can move it. I have broken my leg also and my wrist. I could not move them.

I hope you didn't go to the ER. A sprained ankle will have you waiting for hours to be seen. An urgent care clinic or your own primary care doctor is usually the first place to turn to an ankle sprain.  The standard treatment for a sprained ankle is rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE).  Wrap in an ace bandage, ice it on-and off, and elevate it on a pillow wheel you lie down.  If it still hurts and or you can't bear weight on that ankle, call your doctor. They can do an x-ray and order an MRI if needed.

You can also rent crutches from a pharmacy like CVS if you need to.  Most sprains (stretched or torn ligaments) will heal on their own.  If you tore it all the way through, surgery will eventually be required but most orthopedic specialists will have you wait at least a couple of months to see how it heals.

Wrap your ankle tight.  Then try walking if it sounds like rocks grinding together, the bones are broken.  You'll need an xray then probably a cast.  You can have your friends sign the cast and it'll smell like wet dog.

Yes you should go to the hospital and see if you broke a bone. They can x-ray you and tell you if you have broken a bone

Playing volleyball I tore a ligament.  There was a loud "pop" when it tore.  The hospital knows how to handle this, I would go.

If you can bear weight on it, that is a good sign. Go home, elevate above your heart level, put ice in a bag and place it, over a towel over the joint.

If it is broken, it will still be broken tomorrow,. If it is a sprain, it should feel better and bearing weight improved. Still, your family provider can examine and xray. or Urgent care instead of an expensive, wasteful ER visit.
