Ruined their cities?  The urban areas of America are mostly insanely prosperous.  Even in red states, the economic growth is driven mainly by urban areas which are mostly run by Democrats.  Big cities like New York and Los Angeles, which are centers of liberalism, have economies bigger than most states'.
