Don't cried .  if you have some time you can make a photo posters signs and make it big size papers and you can copy and print it out and with your cat photo with his name and what breed cat he is color, eyes, size, male and what his name is and add your phone number so anyone can call you if they see him. and what date and time he was gone. then put the posters all over the neighborhoods corners and have to wait and you should also call see if anyone pick up a stray cat and drop off the animal catcher service pound see if they had your cat. you can also go stop by there and give them a filers too in case and they can put your cat on missing list . if your cat had a collar with a name tags information numbers then can be some body had him then.

I hope he comes back. I know they don't always come back but they usually will if they get hungry enough.

Quit letting your cat outside! Cats kill songbirds.

If you have a bag of cat dreamies, go around outside shaking them. My cats will never say no to dreamies. If your cat has a favourite toy, you can also rattle that around.

Maybe try knocking on your neighbour's doors to ask if they have seen a cat anywhere nearby

It may depend on whether your cat is used to the outdoors; whether he is neutered, etc. If not neutered, he may have gone looking for a mate. That could lead to trouble, so go looking for him.

    Missing cats:

-Under decks: Cats like to hide under things like decks, porches, in crawl spaces, etc. If they are frightened, they will find a hidden area for safety. Check with a flashlight in such areas. Even a cat who is used to the outdoors may hide if it has been threatened by something the cat is not used to, or if injured.

-Closed spaces: Check things that can be closed such as neighbor's garages, garden sheds or anything that could have been closed after the cat entered. Call to the cat, if any suspicion he could be inside and ask for the area to be opened. If you think he could be in a very hot area, or with no water that you investigate sooner than later so the cat does not become overheated, or dehydrated. Some cats will even go into cars with open windows . . .

-Braver at night: If the cat is still missing by evening, go around calling at night. Bring a cup or bag of his food and rattle it, while calling. Stop briefly and listen in case he calls for you. Cats are usually braver at night, and may come out from hiding, even though frightened.

-Signs: If the cat is still missing by about 24 hours, immediately place signs saying: LOST CAT/PHONE. Make these with huge letters such as with a small foam brush and black acrylic paint, letters about 6 inches tall so they can be read by passing motorists. One $$ store poster board can make four signs Post on phone poles or other similar spots. Make at least 10 signs remembering that neatness does not matter - getting the word out DOES matter.

-Shelters: Do not forget shelters and check them about each 2 to 3 days. Someone could take your cat there, and holding periods vary. Your cat will need you to recover him before the waiting period is up. Go in person because shelter staff is notorious for not being able to describe animals in their care.

Ads: Place a lost ad on Facebook and Craigslist. Include a picture because no one will know what your cat looks like, despite your descriptions. Plenty of cats come up missing, so don't assume yours is the only cat on the site. A pic is very important. Also, do not give any one money for a reward if they don't have your cat in-hand.

Once you find your cat, get him neutered, if he is not already. This will save you a lot of problems in the future, and could even save his life in case he continues to wander. Neutering also keeps male animals from getting serious reproductive cancers and diseases later in life. Also get him microchipped, and place a collar with I.D. on him.
