Minneapolis is one of the whitest cities in the country. Especially for a city that size. Minneapolis also never experienced a large industrial boom, so the two cities aren't really comparable. One thing both cities have in common though, they both have large chemical/materials science companies. Minneapolis has 3M. Detroit has Dow Chemical. Those are two of the top three chemical/materials companies in the U.S. There's a certain level of deference that needs to be paid to that. Also, the largest mall in the U.S, is in the St. Paul, which is part of the same metro area as Minneapolis. Nothing is greater symbol of a more automobile-based economy than the mega mall. In that sense, the two cities complement each other well. Of course, the fact that the automobile industry is in Detroit, not Minneapolis is a major difference between the two cities. Relatedly, Minneapolis has better public transportation than Detroit. You have to hand to Detroit for pioneering an entire industry. Perhaps with the exception of electricity, the popularization of the automobile is the most significant cultural/technological development within the last century. Minneapolis has no such distinction. Minneapolis' contribution to American culture is negligible. Maybe Post-it notes are the most significant impact Minneapolis had on the rest of the country.

Are there groups in Minneapolis like the Supremes?   If not, then no.
