Texas Property Taxes for Disabled Vets?
I know that texas has an exemption system for disabled vets. For example, someone at 90% rating can get up to $12,000 exemption on their property taxes.
My question is, is that for life, or just until you've been exempted to that ammount? So, say my taxes are $4,000 a year, am I exempt from them for life, or am I just not paying property tax for 3 years?

In Texas, a veteran with a disability rating of: 70- 100 percent may receive a $12,000 property tax exemption. Veterans with a full 100% disability rating are fully exempt from property taxes. ... 30- 49 percent may receive a $7,500 property tax exemption. 10- 29 percent may receive a $5,000 property tax exemption.

Its not a $12,000 exemption on tax, its a $12,000 exemption on property value as per the county your property is located.
Example if your property is valued at $100,000 you would still pay taxes on $88,000 value.
It is for life but must be renewed periodically

Property taxes vary greatly based on location. Property taxes are NOT rated on one set standard. An exemption or deduction available in one location may not exist at all in another location.
So, the BEST answer to your question would come from your local tax assessor's office.
Usually, exemptions are based on per year. If the value of your property would go above your exemption amount due to home improvements, then you would owe some taxes for that year.

You misread it. It's $12,000 from the property's value, not the tax.

This is not a statewide Texas thing. Property taxes are assessed and collected by each county. Each county determines their own criteria for reductions/exemptions. You didn't tell us which county you're in and we are not clairvoyant.
Usually taxes are assessed annually and reductions/exemptions are also calculated annually. I would *assume* you would not pay any property tax as long as you continue to qualify and and your annual tax bill remains under 12k. But you will need to check with your county tax assessor's office. The info should be on their website.
