Why do some people cry during spiritual experiences?
Today I was deleting some old files from my university days and meditating on God in the process tears began to stream down my face which I believe might be unconscious feelings being brought to the surface, maybe my mind was making peace with the fact that I no longer have the social life I did in University or that I no longer had an academic purpose to wake up to each morning.

You didn't mention if they were tears of joy or sadness. If old goals are complete then perhaps, it's time to make new plans and start the next chapter in your life.

The same reason people cry at music concerts, it brings innate instincts to the surface. Spirituality and superstition are one and the same thing. All humans are inherently superstitious from having thousands of generations of pagan ancestors who practiced animism, a primitive superstitious belief in spirits and magic. Atheists are the only ones with sufficient intellectual capacity to escape from it.
