Can anyone help me please ?

My 17 year old son wants to be emancipated. Whenever he needs to follow rules or if something doesn’t go his way he rages , now he’s emancipating himself . I live in Massachusetts , what is the procedure fir this and the likelihood?

Lol.... he needs to hire lawyers .... make a case before the judge that he is better off and can take care of himself

    These things will never happen

He’s 17... just wait a few months and he is 18 and all this becomes moot

He can get child support from the parents so you may have to pay for the lawyer.  I was an emancipated minor before they had laws in place for it...set a precedent.  I lived a great life with my little emancipated husband at the time... and now.

Emancipation is a very rare and expensive legal process.  Tell your son to hire a lawyer and allow the lawyer to break the news to him as you likely have no credibility on the subject.  Somethings need to be learned the hard (and expensive) way.

He has to go through family court.  Let him know he'll need to find his own place if he emancipates, he won't be living with you anymore.  He wants to play adult, he goes out in the world like one.

you can google it just as well as anyone else.

typically, a teen has to prove the parents are unfit and the teen must be able to support himself (rent, food, medical, education, transportation, etc).

Come on get real here let the kid emancipate himself! As soon as he gets emancipated open the door and send him out of it! You can be an adult at the age of 18 so if it's important to him to be an adult a year earlier please open the door and send him out of it.

Why are you fighting this open the freaking door and send him out of it!

    It isn't likely at all.

By the time he actually was emancipated, he'd be an adult anyways.  He'd need to establish that he is supporting himself and living on his own, which means him sponging off you doesn't qualify unless he is paying rent.

Tell you what, just have the kid committed to an out of state boarding school or rehab center.  Then he can either join a cult or the military or both when he gets out.

You're young, have some more kids or just buy a boat.
